Dr. Thomas S. Muzzonigro’s remarkable professional journey commenced twenty-one years ago upon completing his residency training in orthopedics. As an orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in the surgical treatment of knee and hip conditions, such as total knee replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery (including ACL reconstruction), total hip replacement, injection therapy, specialty bracing, and focused rehabilitation. Dr. Muzzonigro is also the Orthopedic Lead Director of Operation Walk Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. As such, he travels to Central America to perform knee and hip replacements on poverty-stricken individuals who are unable to afford orthopedic care. Dr. Muzzonigro is also active academically. In his capacity as an author, he has written and published numerous articles on orthopedic topics, such as trauma, sports medicine, and gene therapy for arthritis. Armed with a BS degree in Biology acquired at Union College in Schenectady, NY, in 1988, Thomas S. Muzzonigro, MD, FAAOS, attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, and received his medical degree with honors and distinction in orthopedic research in 1995. He then continued to serve his internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, where he remained to conduct his orthopedic surgery residency (1996-2000). During his residency training, he served as Chief Resident (1999-2000) and clinical instructor. In addition, Dr. Muzzonigro received board certification in orthopedic surgery from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, he is also a member of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons, the Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Allegheny County Medical Society.
